10 Questions in Quarantine with: Ben Heller

May 4, 2020

Ben Heller has been a standout pitcher dating back to his high school days in Wisconsin where he threw two no hitters. Heller joined the Yankees organization when he was traded to New York as part of the Andrew Miller trade in 2016. Just as Heller was poised to become a trusted member of the Yankees bullpen, he missed nearly two seasons after getting Tommy John Surgery. Is Heller set to make his mark on the 2020 season? Find that out and more as we ask Ben Heller 10 Questions in Quarantine.

While stuck in quarantine, if you could only watch three movies, which three would you pick?

Star Wars Episodes 4, 5, and 6. I never get sick of the original trilogy.

What is your favorite TV show of all-time?

Gotta go with The Office, every character in the show cracks me up.

What is the best concert you have ever attended?

Kip Moore. I’m a country music fan and Kip Moore is one of my favorites. His concert was just awesome.

What is your favorite meal?

My favorite meal to make myself is a turkey Thai dish, kind of a healthy alternative to takeout. But if I’m going to a restaurant, it’s hard to turn down a good slice of NY pizza!

What was your first part time job?

My high school and college summer job was always working for my dad who owned a landscaping company. I would cut grass and pull weeds, it wasn’t a very fun job but it taught me how to work hard and motivated me to not have to work landscaping my whole life.

Did you have a hidden talent you’d like to tell the readers about? If not, what is your favorite hobby?

I love to fish, I actually have a little fishing boat, but I am nowhere near what I would consider a good fisherman. It’s more about getting on the water and just enjoying being outdoors for me.

What is your favorite sports moment as a fan?

I grew up in Wisconsin as a big Brewers fan, and my best memory is definitely when CC came to the Brewers and single handedly carried them to the playoffs. He was pitching complete games on 3 days rest for 2 straight months, it was the most dominant pitching I’ve ever seen.

Are you a dog person or a cat person?

I gotta go with a dog, but I’m a sucker for a cute little kitten.

You were out all of 2018 and most of 2019 recovering from Tommy John surgery. Please give the fans an update on your health as we hopefully get ready to play a season in 2020.

These last few years have really been a grind as far as rehabbing and working to get back to the big leagues, but I’m fully healthy now and really excited to pitch an entire season!

If you could pick one batter that you never faced to pitch to in your “dream match up” who would it be?

I’d love to face Barry Bonds. He was always the best player when I was growing up and I’d just like to see what I could do against him!
