Yankees drop series opener to Blue Jays

June 4, 2019

Despite having the potential game-tying and go-ahead runs on base, the New York Yankees were unable to complete the come back in their 4-3 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Down 4-3 in the top of the 9th inning, Luke Voit singled to put the game-tying run on base with one out. Following a Gary Sanchez strikeout, Aaron Hicks walked to put the potential go-ahead run on base. Gleyber Torres subsequently struck out on three pitches to end the game.

Clint Frazier went 1-3 with a two-run home run. Hicks went 2-4 with a solo home run.

Masahiro Tanaka got the loss, pitching six innings and gave up four runs. All four runs came in the fifth inning.

The Yankees will look to bounce back tomorrow night as they send James Paxton to the mound to try and even up the series.
