Yankees fall short against Padres 5-4

May 29, 2019

The New York Yankees were unable to complete a late comeback as they fell to the San Diego Padres 5-4.

Down 5-1 in the bottom of the 7th inning, DJ LeMahieu trimmed the Padres lead to 5-3 with a two-run single. The Yankees would come within one run of tying the game after Aaron Hicks RBI fielders choice, but the Yankees couldn’t capitalize any further.

Masahiro Tanaka got the loss as he gave up five runs, with four of those runs being earned over six innings. All four of the five runs scored came in the first inning.

Gary Sanchez hit his 17th home run of the season, bringing him within one home run of his season total last year at 18. LeMahieu had two RBIs while Hicks and Luke Voit each had two hits.

The Yankees will look to take two out of three tomorrow afternoon as James Paxton will make his first start since being put on the Injured List on May 3rd.
