The "No Name Bombers" once again did their thing today and beat the Rays 7-1 to take 2/3 in this key series. The win pulled the Bombers to 1/2 game out of 1st (1 in the loss column). Masa outpitched Blake Snell throwing a 7 inning gem with 7 K’s. His only blemish an Austin Meadows solo homer. Gio Urshela had 2 RBIs, and LeMahieu, Romine, and Tauchman all had 2 knocks apiece. What was most comical was when the lineup came out this morning all the twitter jerkweeds had their complaints and wisecracks ready because Sanchez and Torres weren’t playing. God forbid these hacks show any knowledge or common sense in knowing that both of those guys took a physical pounding the last couple nights. Instead its more fun for these dolts to make fun of Aaron Boone, and assume an automatic loss. I find this win today especially satisfying because of this.
Tomorrow marks the return of outfielder Aaron Hicks to the club from his spring training back injury. Gradually the club is getting healthier. The Yanks did not announce a corresponding roster move yet. With that in mind, I felt it was my job to fast forward the hands of time another month (to when everyone is back healthy)and construct the best Yankee roster possible for winning a championship. This will just be the 13 position players. I will break down the pitching staff in a few weeks.
C: Gary and Romine: easy peasy nothing difficult to think about here.
1B: Luke Voit.- Voit is in a horrific 1/22 slump. But his power and fiery play have been a keep element in the early success of this team. This job is his.
2B: DJ LeMahieu- talk about an awesome free agent signing. The guy is hitting .333 (2nd in the AL) plays phenomenal defense (Saturday night aside, and is as clutch as they come hitting .485 with RISP. DJ must play every day.
SS: Didi Gregorius- hasn’t played an inning yet this year, but is set to begin playing in extended spring games this week, then begin a rehab assignment shortly after. His lefty power bat and brilliant glove will be a welcome addition to this team. Didi is in there every day when he returns.
3B: Gio Urshela- This guy has been a godsend for the 2019 Yanks. Playing phenomenal defense, and hitting .341. This is also the part where I get a little controversial and say that incumbent 3B Miguel Andujar should be shut down and have his torn labrum operated on. Get healthy and come back next season Miggy. Andujar is 3/34 since coming off the DL showing none of the extra base power that made this kid a star. It was a fluke injury on a careless baserunning play showing its just not his year. Plus with Urshela making us all say Manny who? This is the right move both short and long term for the team and Andujar
LF: Giancarlo Stanton- one of the premier righty power hitters in baseball, an underrated OF’er, and right in prime. Only twitter nitwits think the Yankees should get rid of this guy
CF: Hicks- The Yankees true 5 tool player. IF he can stay healthy he needs to be in there every day.
RF: Aaron James Judge: duh
DH: Gleyber Torres- Gleyber has kind of plateaued defensively. Still just 22 he has a chance to correct that as he continues to mature as a pro. I am talking about 2019 and to me his best spot is DH’ing. Of course, he can spell DJ, Didi, and Gio as needed but his bat needs to be in there every single day.
The final 3 spots go to Thairo Estrada, Mike Tauchman, and Brett Gardner. Estrada plays all IF positions besides 1st and has some pop, and can “fake” corner OF in an emergency. Tauchman is a lefty, has some pop and could play first. Gardy despite his hot streak a few weeks ago when he popped a few homers looks done. I think at this point Cameron Maybin looks like the better player. However Gardner is a career Yankee, a leader in the clubhouse, and Cashman’s boy we are stuck with him, but it has to be as a pinch runner, defensive replacement, and spot starter.
The disappointing odd man out in this plan is Clint Frazier. Since coming off the DL from yet another fluky injury (an ankle this time) he is just 5/25 with 1 EB hit. He is a butcher in the OF. He has proven he can hit big league pitching. He needs to go down to Scranton, plays every day, and maybe become trade bait for a starter like Carlos Carrasco or Marcus Stroman.
I am sure most will rip me for this, but to me, this roster gives the Yankees the depth, and versatility similar to the dynasty teams. If Sevy comes back this is a championship in the making
Today’s terrible tweet goes To @viper694 in response to a tweet from Christian about the Yanks punting Saturday’s game;
“When you put a piece of garbage picture like [Nestor Cortes JR] you give up the game Aaron does not know what he's doing.”
As Christian and I pointed out this dolt has the gall to criticize Aaron Boone’s mastery of baseball when he clearly hasn’t mastered the English language. Nestor Cortes Jr is a pitcher, not a picture numbnuts.
Keep listening, keep those 5-star reviews coming. Go Yanks!
