Yankees state of the union
A stinker for the Yanks yesterday as the Twinkies spanked them 7-3. Jake Odorizzi (who always seems to dominate the Bombers) gave up 1 hit through 6. Garver, Cron, and Cruz hit homers for the bad guys. Even after moving the game to 4:05 the rubber game of the series looks in jeopardy with the lousy weather in the Tri-State area today. We shall see.
One thing abundantly clear from yesterday is the Yankees have a JA Happ crisis on their hands. Happ has allowed 17 ER’s in 20 IP at Yankee Stadium including 7 homers. That is an ungodly number and quite frankly Sonny Gray-esque. Friday’s injury to James Paxton magnifies Happ’s issues. Right now the Yankees best starter is Domingo German. So far he has responded, but this is not ideal. I hope the rumors are true that after the MLB draft when draft pick compensation is no longer a factor that the Yanks will actually consider signing Dallas Keuchel. Moves have to be made to keep championship aspirations going with all the injuries, and struggles.
Another little sidebar regarding Happ again just what in the actual hell does Larry Rothschild do? Happ has to pitch better. Its the pitching coaches job to make sure his pupils make adjustments. This seems to be a problem for ‘ol Larr. Even the recently demoted Chad Green showed up in Scranton made an adjustment with his hands and has looked dominant. Granted against lesser competition but come on.
With Gary Sanchez’s 11th homer yesterday he raised his average to .271. It’s going to take a bit more for me to join Christian at the head of the El Gary fan club. However, I’m not a moron like so many of the dolts on twitter. The man is an incredible talent. If he is going to take what the pitcher gives him and hit the ball through the middle so he can hit for a high average, and not swing from his heels Sanchez will score a lot of points with me.
The Giancarlo Stanton shoulder injury is weird huh? According to Aaron Boone, he is going to ramp up his activity tomorrow so we’ll see what happens. In other IL news, Aaron Hicks is playing in rehab games and is a week away so that will help. Didi is getting closer which is exciting. Clint Frazier should be back tomorrow. With Andujar’s return, Boone is going to have to figure out where to play everyone. In my opinion, Gardy is going to have to sit against lefties when everyone(including Aaron Judge) comes back. Under no circumstances is Gio Urshela to be let go. His defense is too good. Miggy and Frazier might want to start picking up 1B gloves. With all this new found depth playing time is gonna be hard to come by when the club is fully healthy, and versatility is gonna be a key factor
Today’s terrible tweet with an assist to my teammate Liam goes to @ashbonny commenting on Aaron Judge:
“I went off 99 bandwagon once [Aaron Judge] made zero improvements to not K 200 times a season last season. After MVP campaign in ‘17 I surely thought he’d improve. He’s not a clever person at all. A bit dumb. A Butch Huskey comparison is appropriate.
To quote the great James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano to his son AJ after he vandalized his school in the season 3 Sopranos episode “The Telltale Moozadell” “Are you f***ing stupid?” Stop cheering for the Yankees at minimum. Maybe stop watching baseball altogether. Clearly, you have issues. I have a family full of Red Sox fans and even they recognize the greatness of Aaron Judge.
