Sanchez slam helps lift Yankees over Giants
The Yankees beat the San Francisco Giants yesterday by a score of 6-4. JA Happ went 7 innings allowing 0 runs and striking out 2 as he continues to improve with every start.
The Yanks would open up their scoring with a DJ LeMahieu RBI single as he continues be red hot at the plate. Their 2nd run would come in the 5th as Luke Voit was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Then, with the bases still loaded, Gary Sanchez would blast an inside fastball 467 feet to left center for a grand slam, giving the Yankees a 6-0 lead. The grand slam by Sanchez was his first hit since coming off the IL.
Luis Cessa would relieve JA Happ to start the 8th and would pitch a 1-2-3 inning. He would then come back out for the 9th looking to lock down the victory with a 6-0 lead, but he would make things interesting. He would allow back-to-back singles and then after a force out for the first out, former Yankee Yangervis Solarte would homer to right field cutting the Yankees' lead in half. Next batter Brandon Crawford would line out to right and then catcher Erik Kratz would hit the Giants second long ball of the inning, this one a solo shot, making it a 6-4 ballgame. Aaron Boone has seen enough as he would bring in Aroldis Chapman to get the final out. Chapman would strikeout Pablo Sandoval to secure the series win.
The Yankees continue to win despite having 14 guys in the IL. It sure is fun to watch. They'll go for the sweep today at 4:05 Pm ET. Domingo German looks to continue his magical start to the 2019 season and he'll face against Dereck Rodriguez.
