The Yankees announced today they have granted the request of Gio Gonzalez and released him. Gio was signed to a minor league contract with the Yankees in March, with the choice to opt out on 4/20/19 if he was not with the major league club. Gonzalez exercised that option on 4/20/19 and the Yankees had 48 hours to either grant his release or assign him to the major league team. Gonzalez is now a free agent.
Also announced today was the signing of infielder Brad Miller to a minor league contract. Miller, 29, played for both the Rays and Brewers in 2018. He played with the Indians until last week, when he was released. Miller hit .250/.325/.417 with a homer and four RBI in 40 plate appearances with the Indians.
