Yankees top Tigers 3-1; Andujar could have season ending surgery
The Yankees beat the Tigers by a score of 3-1 tonight, led by a great start by Domingo German.
The Yanks would open the scoring with a a solo home run by Gary Sanchez to left center. Sanchez homered yesterday, so with all of the recent injuries, a hot Gary Sanchez could help carry the Yankees through these rough times.
The next run would come off the bat of Greg Bird. An RBI single to left scooted past Tigers left fielder Christin Stewart and would allow Luke Voit to chug all the way home from first.
In the 4th, the Tigers would get one back. A wild pitch by Domingo German would bound away from Gary Sanchez. Sanchez picked up the baseball and fired it across his body to second base attempting to nab the runner heading for there, but the ball would roll into center field. A run would score and Sanchez would be given an error on the play, but it was a very catch-able throw that Gleyber Torres didn't get a glove on.
It wouldn't take long for the bombers to get that run back. After everyone and their grandma wanted Brett Gardner off the team after just the 3rd game of the season he silenced them with a solo homer into the Yankees' bullpen.
German would be done after 5 solid innings with 7 K's. He would hand the ball over to the Yankees' bullpen who would fire a combined 4 scoreless innings, finishing off with a 1-2-3 inning by Aroldis Chapman to secure the slim 2-run victory.
It wasn't all good news in the Bronx as Aaron Boone told the media that Miguel Andujar will be re-evaluated in 2 weeks and season ending surgery could be on the table. Heartbreaking news.
The Yanks are back at it again tomorrow. Same time, same place.
