Yankees top O's 7-2 on opening day

March 29, 2019

The New York Yankees jumped out to a 3-0 lead on Luke Voit’s three-run home run in the first inning and never looked back as they went on to beat the Baltimore Orioles 7-2 on Opening Day.

Masahiro Tanaka earned his first career win on opening day, pitching five and two-thirds innings, giving up just one earned run and struck out five. Adam Ottavino, Zack Britton and Aroldis Chapman combined to strike out four batters through three and one-third innings pitched.

Voit led the offense, driving in four runs. Andujar drove in two runs with a sacrifice fly and he grounded into a double play that scored Aaron Judge, although that run doesn’t officially count as an RBI. Greg Bird hit a solo home run in the eighth inning.

James Paxton will get his first career start on Saturday when they face the Orioles at 1:05 pm.
