Tyler Wade "blindsided' by demotion to AAA
Prior to today’s spring training game against the Twins, the Yankees announced they have optioned utility IF/OF Tyler Wade to Triple A. This moved surprised a lot of fans, as well as Wade himself. Wade said he was “blindsided” by the news, saying he felt like he did everything the Yankees asked of him. Several reporters indicate Wade was visibly angry after the game saying he felt he could play in the OF well enough to help the team.
Aaron Boone announced the newly acquired outfielder Mike Tauchman, will be part of the outfield rotation behind Gardner, Judge and Stanton.
The Yankees also announced they received Rule 5 pick Nick Green from the Diamondbacks. After clearing waivers, Green will rejoin his former club, having not made the Diamondbacks’ Opening Day roster.
Green did not have a good spring training. He walked 11 batters in 13 1/3 innings. Green was chosen by the Diamondbacks in the Rule 5 Draft after a successful season at High-A, in which he posted a 3.28 ERA in 115 1/3 innings. Green will now return to the Yankees organization, though they are not required to place him on the 40-man roster.
