Today, Aaron Boone brought some clarity to the Yankees’ rotation questions. Jonathan Loaisiga was optioned to Triple A Scranton today. CC Sabathia will begin the season on the roster, allowing him to serve his 5 game suspension which carried over from last year when he hit Jesús Sucre in response to the Rays plunking Austin Romine. Once Sabathia has served his suspension, he will move to the Injured List, according to Bryan Hoch. Loiasigia will then take Sabathia’s spot in the rotation, following the 5th game of the season.
It was also announced that Domingo German will be the Yankees 4th starter. Luis Cessa has made the team and will pitch in a long relief role. Boone did not rule out using an opener for the April 1 game against Detroit.
This spring, Loaisiga was 2-1 in 5 games with a 6.75 ERA in 16 innings. German posted a 1-2 record in 3 games with a 4.11 ERA in 15.1 innings. Cessa was 2-0 in 3 games with a 0.53 ERA in 17 innings.
