Yankee injuries continue; Update on Betances and Hicks
Yankees' reliever Dellin Betances will join the list of Yankees who will not be on the Opening Day roster. General Manager Brian Cashman announced today that Betances is experiencing impingement symptoms in his right shoulder. Betances will receive cortisone injections and will not throw for 3-5 days. Cashman did not give a timetable for Betances' return but did not think it would be a long injury. Betances told reporters he had issues getting extended this spring because he reported late to camp in February because of the birth of his son. Yankees' manager Aaron Boone indicated he thinks outfielder Aaron Hicks will only miss 5-6 games due to his ongoing back injury. Hicks told reporters his diagnosis is "chronic back pain". Hicks told Jack Curry during the game today that he was feeling good after receiving a second cortisone injection. The Yankees have discussed giving Hicks some at-bats in the minors before returning him to the active roster.
