Today the Yankees signed veteran lefty starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez to a minor league deal. The deal is worth $3 million if Gonzalez reaches the majors with the Yankees. He has been given the option to choose to be released on April 20.
Gonzalez, 33, owns a career 3.90 ERA and pitched to a 4.12 ERA in 171 innings with the Nationals and Brewers last season.
With the injuries to C.C. Sabathia and Luis Severino this is a very welcomed addition as it adds much needed depth to the rotation. Gonzalez will likely join the mix with Domingo German, Luis Cessa and Jonathan Loaisiga as they battle for the final 2 spots in the rotation.
