Aaron Boone, Yankees on to Boston
That was some Wild Card Win by the Yankees huh? After beating Oakland 7-2 Wednesday the Yankees are on to the ALDS, and their blood rivals the Red Sox. Yankee Stadium was rocking, Aaron Judge mashed, and Luis Severino dealt. More importantly Aaron Boone proved to Yankee fans he is very capable of using his gut in games, and quite undeserving of a ton of the criticism he gets from fans. Boone started Severino, stuck with him probably a little too long, used Dellin Betances to get Severino out of trouble(and for 2 innings), and made some brilliant defensive changes. It was almost like he said "Screw it, I'm doing this my way!" It sure payed off, all his moves worked, and the Bombers advanced as the NYYSportsalk crew predicted.
This was the match up we all hoped for with the best rivalry in sports. The Red Sox had a magical season winning 108 games in capturing the AL East. The Yankees have never really clicked since their early season hot streak, but still won 100 games. All the pressure is on Boston to justify that record. The Yankees on the other hand are set up perfectly to knock them off. They are healthy, seem to be clicking offensively, and by starting Severino Wednesday JA Happ is ready to pitch twice in the 5 game series. The Red Sox have question marks about their ace pitcher Chris Sale(who's velocity topped out a 91 degrees in his last start) and his health. The Sox won the season series 10-9, but that means nothing. It is the postseason and so much more is at stake. These games will not be for the faint of heart. It is going to be awesome!
I really feel like the Yankees should win this series in 4. If Sale is not himself the right-handed hitting heavy Yankee lineup should batter him tonight. Then the pressure is on postseason fraud David Price(whom the Yankees have owned) to win game 2 or risk heading to New York down 2-0. If the Yankee pitchers do their job and not get beat by the Pearces, Nuneys, and Vazquezes of the world things should go well. The Yankees lack of firepower on the road at times does concern me. Their infield defense quite frankly stinks. Gary Sanchez could implode behind the plate. I am also a little nervous about Zach Britton after his shaky performance against Oakland the other night. Despite all that The Bombers should handle their business. If Sale was 100% I would say Boston in 4. With him dinged I just believe the Yanks are better. I still have my doubts that this is the Yankees year. However they are at the dance and anything can happen. I will be back tomorrow to give you my thoughts on game 1. Enjoy it!
