The Yankees continue their home stand with a 3 game midweek series against Tampa Bay. The Yankees took of 3 of 4 vs Texas and have won 6 of their last 7 since being swept against Boston. They look to stay hot vs weak opponents for the next few weeks, and to improve their record, which is 31 games over 500.
GAME ONE: August 14th @7PM
JA Happ (12-6, 4.07 ERA) vs Hunter Wood (0-0, 3.91 ERA)
Happ takes the mound for game one of the series, and he has certainly been getting the job done ever since he has came to New York. In each start, he has given the team a chance to win. He’ll look to stay hot vs the weak Rays lineup. Hunter Wood will start for Tampa, who has a 3.91 ERA in 25.1 IP this season.
GAME TWO: August 15th @7PM
Masahiro Tanaka (9-3, 4.08 ERA) vs TBD
Tanaka takes the hill in game two, and he had been dominating until his last start vs Texas, where he allowed 6 ER in 5 innings. He’ll need to get command of splitter back in order to get more strikeouts and keep batters off the bases. He’ll look to return to form he had before that game, when he had 4 consecutive solid starts. The Rays will likely start one of their “openers.”
GAME THREE: August 16th @1PM
Lance Lynn (8-8, 4.46 ERA) vs TBD
Lynn will close out the series, and he also has been dominant since getting traded to the Yanks. His last 2 starts were a combined 12.1 IP with one run allowed. The Yankees will need him to contribute while CC spends time on the DL, and Severino tries to right whatever is he has going on. Lynn looks as if he will be a key factor going forward for the Yankee pitching staff. Tampa Bay has not yet announced a SP for Thursday, they may throw another opener to end the series.
The Yankees still trail the Red Sox by just under 10 games. It looks unlikely that they will make a run for the division title, but they are still on pace to win 100 games. Looking ahead, if they are to win the wild card game, they would face Boston in the ALDS, in what would certainly be one of the most excited and anticipated in recent memory.
