Sonny Gray hits rock bottom, Sox answer back in 11-0 victory over Bombers
What an embarrassment. After an exciting 8-1 victory over the BoSox the night before, the Yankees take an 11-0 loss tonight. Let’s just cut to the chase. Sonny Gray was horrific again. After retiring the first 2 batters he faced, he would allow the next 3 Red Sox to reach base, loading the bases. Rafael Devers stepped to the plate and slapped a grand slam over the left field wall. Unbelievable. Sonny Gray seemingly did the impossible. He had so many chances to record the 3rd out and just couldn’t bare down. Gray would a allow 2 more runs in the very next inning and would be pulled after 2.1 innings pitched to the sound of THUNDEROUS boos. If you thought the Yankee Stadium crowd gave Giancarlo Stanton a hard time early on, well, they surely made Gray aware of how they feel about him.
As for Chris Sale, he was fantastic. He only allowed 1 hit (which came off the bat of Stanton in the 1st inning) and struck out 11 over 7 innings. Yes, Chris Sale is a great pitcher and can shut down any offense at anytime, but the Yankees looked lost against him. Also; it’s the 4th time the Yankees have been shutout this month.
Oh well. Just one of those games you have to try and forgot. The Yankees have proved time and time again that a loss does nothing to their demeanor. Not to mention Luis Severino with toe the slab tomorrow against David Price. Price has been good but the he has always struggled against the Yanks.
