Yankees blow out Red Sox in series opener, 8-1

July 1, 2018

Behind a stellar outing from C.C Sabathia and an offensive outburst that had four home runs, the New York Yankees blew out the Boston Red Sox 8-1 in the series opener.

Following a lead off triple from Gleyber Torres in the bottom of the 2nd inning, Miguel Andujar got the Yankees on the board first with an RBI single.

With runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs, Torres extended the lead to two with a sacrifice fly. Andujar would follow that up with a two run home-run to give the Yankees a 4-0 lead. Later in the same inning, Greg Bird hit an opposite field home run to extend the lead to five.

Aaron Judge hit a two run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning and Bird hit his second homer of the game in the eighth, which capped off the Yankees seven run win.

Sabathia earned the win, pitching seven innings and allowing just one run.

Andujar paced the offense, going 3-4 with three RBIs and a home run. Bird went 2-4 with two solo home runs.

Sonny Gray will get the start for the Yankees tomorrow night. He will be opposed by Chris Sale.
