This week the red hot Yankees return to The Bronx after their 9 game road trip, in which they went 7-2. They face another hot team, the Nationals, in a two game set in what could be a potential late October matchup. The Yankees come in winning 8 of their last 10 and it seems as if all things have been clicking for them. The rookies continue to help carry the lineup, while starting pitching is showing consistency, and the bullpen continues to dominate.
GAME ONE: Tuesday, June 12th @7PM
Sabathia (3-1, 3.59 ERA) vs Tanner Roark (3-6, 3.56 ERA)
CC takes the bump Tuesday in the first home game in over a week. He is coming off of a stellar start against Toronto in which he went 7 innings and only allowed 2 runs on 3 hits. He will try to build off of the success in his last outing against the big bats of Washington like Bryce Harper (19 HR) and the Nationals own rookie sensation, 19 year old Juan Soto. (.328/.431/.541 since he was called up about three weeks ago)
GAME TWO: Wednesday, June 13th @7PM
Sonny Gray (4-4, 4.81 ERA) vs TBD
The Nationals have yet to announce a replacement starter for the injured Stephen Strasburg.
For the Yankees, it’s going to be Sonny Gray on the hill. Gray is coming off of his best start since being traded to the Yankees a year ago going 8 scoreless innings with 8 K’s and just 2 hits against the Blue Jays. Sonny has gone 6 innings deep and allowed 1 run or fewer in 3 of his last 4 starts as he tries to correct his dismal start to the year. He could make a big statement this week by shutting down the big bats of the Nationals.
Definitely looks to be an exciting 2 game interleague set in The Bronx to start the week.
