Sonny Gray takes another step forward, Yanks win 5th straight

May 6, 2018

The Yanks just keep on winning. The final in today’s game against the Indians was 5-2. Sonny Gray got the ball against Trevor Bauer.

No score until the top of the 5th, as Francisco Lindor lifted a solo shot over the and gave the Tribe a 1-0 lead.

The Yankees would get that run right back in the bottom half of the inning. A bases loaded walk to Austin Romine would tie it at 1. Next up was Ronald Torreyes who would ground one routinely to Lindor at short, he was unable to field it cleanly, which scored a run, then he would toss it to 3rd and Jose Ramirez gave no effort to catch the call and another run would come in to score. 3-1 Yankees now. Next up was Gardy and he would lift a sac fly to left scoring another run and advancing Torreyes from 2nd to 3rd. Torreyes appeared to be out at third (and if the call was reversed the run wouldn’t have scored) but the Indians surprisingly decided not to challenge.

Top 6 and the Indians would get 1 back, an RBI groundout by Edwin Encarnacion.

After a double by Romine Gardner would bring him in with a single for a nice insurance run 5-2 bombers now.

Bottom 9 and David Robertson on the mound looking for the save, 2014 style. He would allow a 1 out double to Encarnacion but would retire everyone else to secure the W.

Sonny Gray was great today, his second straight quality start. Also, the Yankees have won 14 of their last 15. Not bad... and it’s tons of fun to watch. The Yanks will look for a sweep of the Indians tomorrow at 1:05 PM ET tomorrow.
