Yankees winning streak ends at 9 games after loss to Astros

May 1, 2018

The New York Yankees lost to the Houston Astros in a dry one tonight, 2-1. Charlie Morton no hit the Yankees through 5 ⅓, while Sonny Gray showed drastic improvement.

Gray looked sharp for a change tonight. He went 6 innings, giving up just two runs. He struck out 4 while walking 3 and allowing 4 hits. He appeared to attack hitters more than usual tonight, rather than nibbling around the plate. Dellin Betances came in with a clean seventh, while Holder took care of the 8th in the same fashion.

There is not much to be said about the offense tonight as they were shut down for almost the entire game. It took the Yankees until the 6th inning to get their first hit when Romine ripped a single the other way. They were only able to scrape off one run tonight, on a RBI single by Brett Gardner. The 2-6 “power” spot went 0-18, with 11 strikeouts. Charlie Morton was brilliant.
