Stanton 4-4 with HR in Yankees 14-1 win over Twins

April 24, 2018

The Yankees topped the Twins tonight by a score of 14-1. Masahiro Tanaka started on the mound for the Yanks in this one and he was great, coming off back to back poor starts. He went 6.2 innings, giving up only 1 run.

The real story tonight was the Yankee offense which would get off to a hot start in the 1st inning. With 2 outs, 2 men on, Gary Sanchez cleared the bases with a 2 RBI double. Next batter, Aaron Hicks, drives in the Yankees 3rd run of the inning with an RBI single. Great start to the game offensively for New York.

Bottom of the second and Miguel Andujar stays scorching hot as he lined his 3rd homer of the year into the left field seats. 4-0 Yankees now.

A little trouble for Tanaka in the 5th as Brian Dozier would line an RBI single to left scoring Ryan LaMarre (remember that name) to get the Twins back into the game. Tanaka would get out of it, however, and the Yankee lead remained intact.

Bottom of the same inning and Giancarlo Stanton would get that run right back as he CRUSHED a hanging curve ball into the bleachers in left field to extend the Yankee lead to 5-1. It’s pretty clear that Stanton and Sanchez are starting to find their swings, and with Judge and Gregorius off to MVP-like starts, it can only mean great things for the Yankees.

More for the Yankees in the bottom of the 7th as Judge double and Stanton continued his big night with and RBI single. Want more 2-out RBIs? You got it. A 2-RBI two-bagger for Tyler Austin made it 8-1 Yankees.

Bottom 8 and Gleyber Torres lead off the inning with his first big league hit. Congrats to Gleyber, lets hope it’s the first of many. After that, Gardner and Judge would walk. Bases loaded now for Didi Gregorius and he had the best possible outcome you can have with the bases juiced. A grand slam to right field, which put him ahead of Javier Baez and Jed Lowrie for the MLB lead in RBIs (24) and put the Yankees ahead 12-1. After Gregorius put the nail in the coffin, Twins Manager, Paul Molitor decided to put their center fielder, Ryan LaMarre, on the mound. He got the second out as Aaron Hicks would pop one up in the infield, but the next batter, Tyler Austin, took advantage of a 72 MPH fastball and took it deep into the seats for his 4th dinger of the year.

Bottom 9 and newly called up David Hale pitched his second scoreless inning to finish off the Yankees 14-1 laugher.

Not a single negative from this game. 14-1 is as good as it gets. This is the team people envisioned before the season started. Hopefully the Yankees can keep on rolling tomorrow. Game two of the series is at 6:35 PM.
