The Yankees lost to the Miami Marlins by a score of 9-1. Yes, sadly, you did read that correctly.
Masahiro Tanaka got the ball for the Yankees and disappointed for a second straight start. After the first two innings of play it was 4-0 Marlins. His defense didn’t offer him any help but, he wasn’t very sharp to begin with.
Top of the 5th and J.T. Realmuto, fresh off the DL for the Marlins, drilled a 3-run bomb to right field to give the Fish a 7-0 lead.
In the 8th Luis Cessa would surrender a run and then leave with an injury. Cessa was recalled today to fill in for an injured Tommy Kahnle, just an idea on how the Yankees season has gone thus far. The Marlins would score 1 more in the inning as their lead swelled to 9-0.
Bottom of the 9th, and the only run for the Yankees would come with 2 outs. A solo shot for Miguel Andujar, the first of his career. Congratulations to Andujar, as it’s likely the first of many. The next batter, Brett Gardner, struck out to end the suffering.
Nothing but sloppy baseball from the bombers tonight. So many opportunities, but nothing to show for it. Also, Stanton was 0-4 with 2 K’s and he left 4 men on base in total. Downright embarrassing. Every good team loses to a bad team here and there but losing 9-1 to a team like the Marlins is tough to comprehend.
These first 16 games of baseball haven’t been much fun to watch. It could be much worse, however. The Yankees are off tomorrow but face the Blue Jays at the stadium on Thursday to start a 4 game set.
