Yankees fight back in game 2 of series, literally
The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox by a score of 10-6 in a wild one tonight. Tyler Austin was thrown out in the seventh inning after getting into a brawl with Joe Kelly. Kelly hit Austin with an 98 MPH fastball as retaliation for what Boston’s Brock Holt determined was a dirty slide. Benches cleared, punches were thrown, and the rivalry was revitalized. Phil Nevin got the boot as well.
The Yankees got the offense going with a four run 1st inning off David Price, who was pulled after the first due to a tingling sensation in his hand. Stanton hit a two run triple to right- center field, and Gary Sanchez hit a 2 run home run. Didi had a couple of sacrifice fly balls in the win and Tyler Austin also chipped in with an RBI before he got ejected. Gardner reached base four out of five times tonight while Gary, Stanton and Judge combined to go 8-14 with four extra base hits.
Despite the victory, the Yankees pitching struggles continued for a second straight night. Tanaka went five innings, giving up six earned runs and seven hits while collecting the win. David Cone had noted that even though he only gave up one run in the first four innings, he never had his good stuff. Chad Green came in relief of Tanaka, going two scoreless innings. Robertson followed with a perfect inning, striking out two. Chapman came on to seal the victory. Runners reached second and third to start the ninth. He got Sandy Leon to fly out to right on a hard hit ball for the first out, Mookie Betts to strike out and finished off Devers to get the win.
Great to see the team come together during the brawl and to lock the game down afterwards.
