The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays during the home opener by a score of 11-4 today. The opener was delayed by rain but got on soon after the 4pm scheduled start time. Introductions had to be skipped, but that did not stop Didi Gregorius. As John Sterling says, “Didi Gregorius makes Yankee fans euphorious!”
Jordan Montgomery made the start in the win. He went five innings, giving up one run and striking out four. His changeup was sharp and had good command of his fastball. David Robertson and Chasen Shreve helped finish the win by combining for two innings, two strikeouts and no runs allowed.
The story today was Didi, however. His day started off with a double and then scoring on a Tyler Wade single. He then collected his first three RBI with a three run home run off Chris Archer giving the Yankees a 4-0 lead. He hit another three run home run off Austin Pruitt in the seventh, then in the 8th hitting a two run single. Brett Gardner and Aaron Judge had the other two RBI. Tommy Kahnle got the W.
