Yankees top Marlins, 8-5

March 19, 2018

The New York Yankees defeated the Miami Marlins Monday by a score of 8-5. It was a team effort as no particular player shined over the rest. Luis Severino pitched better than his numbers show, while Greg Bird and Gary Sanchez homered to jolt the Yankees' offense.

The offense got going today with a two run home run by Greg Bird. Neil Walker, who is trying to solidify his case to start after Miguel Andujar got sent down, hit a two run double. Gary Sanchez homered in the third as well. Stanton chipped in with an RBI single in the seventh against his former team.

Luis Severino looked solid today, striking out seven over five innings and allowing three runs. His slider looked sharp, while putting his fastball on the back burner. He gave up a double and home run to Brian Anderson, but outside of those two hits, the remaining five were 'weak' contact. There was nothing special from the bullpen today, allowing two runs over four innings combined. Overall, a solid performance by the Yankees to get the W.
