In their fourth game of Spring Training, the Yankees defeated the Phillies 4-3 at George M. Steinbrenner Field on a ninth inning walk off home run by Miguel Andujar. Sonny Gray pitched two scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out two, in his Spring Training debut. Gary Sanchez and Didi Gregorius were among players to make their respective ST debuts as well in 2018.
The Phillies were the first to get on the board with a run in the third and the fifth, taking a 2-0 lead. Tyler Wade got the Yankees rolling in the bottom of the fifth closing the gap, 2-1. Later on in the seventh inning, Andujar doubled to tie the game at 2. Cody Carroll pitched a scoreless eighth inning, and Jorge Saez hit an RBI single in the bottom of the inning to put the Yanks up by a run.
Scott Kingery answered in the top of the ninth for the Phillies with a solo home run to tie the game at 3 runs a piece. Then, in the bottom of the ninth, Yankees’ third baseman Miguel Andujar hit a two-out walk off home run off of Ranger Suarez to win the game 4-3.
The Yankees move to 4-0 this spring, and will take on the Blue Jays tomorrow at Dunedin Stadium with Chad Green set to make his first start of the Spring.
