The 2017 New York Yankees have had little trouble proving they belong in the postseason so far this October.  After ace Luis Severino faltered in the Wild Card game, only recording one out and allowing 3 runs, it was time for him to take the hill in Game 4, AKA "Sevy's Redemption." His outing, however, would follow 2 pivotal games that got the Yankees to this critical point.

In Game 1 the Yankees faced a dominant, unhittable, Trevor Bauer.  The league leading home run hitting Bronx Bombers were shut down the entire night, losing a lopsided 4-0 battle. There wasn't much you were going to do that night, so it wasn't as "pivotal" as the following two games.  With arguably the best pitcher in the AL, Corey Kluber, set to go in Game 2, Yankee fans weren't feeling all that confident about their team's fate in the ALDS.  Fast forward to the 6th inning of Game 2.  The Yankees manage to knock Kluber out early, obtain an 8-3 lead, and turn the ball over to Chad Green with 1 out a...

After an early 3-0 first inning deficit, the New York Yankees turned to Chad Green after Luis Severino exited the game recording just one out and leaving two runners on. All that Green had to do was make one tiny mistake and the Yankees would find themselves down 5-0 before ever coming to the plate.  But, he didn't. He came out as the same poised, confident relief pitcher we've seen all season. His brilliance has been surprising to say the least, and he shut the door to stop the bleeding yet again.  The pulse of the stadium was still existent, but if the Yankees didn't score early, it would soon fade along with the chances of the Bronx Bombers moving on to the ALDS.

A lead off walk to Brett Gardner in the bottom of the 1st inning gave the Yankees some early hope of scratching across a run and cutting into the Twins' lead.  After an Aaron Judge single jolting the crowd to its' feet, Didi Gregorius stepped up to the plate with two on and one out.  With one swing of the bat "Sir...

After a brutal three game set against the Cleveland Indians, where the Yankees were swept, the team found themselves 5.5 games back of the Red Sox in the AL East.  Last night marked the first game of the final four games against Boston, and the Yankees set the tone nicely with a 6 to 2 victory. As great as last night's win may have been, it means nothing if they can't find a way to shut the door for a second straight night in the Bronx, where Sonny Gray is set to pitch the biggest game of his young Yankee career.

Last night's win brought the Yankees a notch closer to the division leading Red Sox, but 4.5 games back still isn't anything to write home about.  It was a step in the right direction, it set the tone for the series, and now it's time for the Yankees to build on the momentum.  In my opinion, if the Yankees lose tonight against the Boston Red Sox, not only will it shatter their chances at winning the division, it could end their chances at making the postseason all together...

August 31, 2017

It’s the last day of August and the Yankees are coming off an embarrassing three game sweep at the hands of the Cleveland Indians. Cleveland is one of the top teams in the American League so it’s no slight to lose to them. The reason the past three games were an embarrassment is because the Yankees scored all of four runs in those three games. You can count Greg Bird’s garbage time home run in the ninth inning during yesterday’s second game, but I’m not. The Yankees were feeling pretty good about themselves and their chances this weekend when they were just two games out in the loss column in the AL East Monday morning. The Indians came to town and the Yankees are now 5.5 games out in the division. They are clinging to a one game lead for the top Wild Card. Oh, how the feeling in the Bronx has changed in three days.

The big Yankees news heading into the Cleveland series was the benching of Aaron Judge to “refresh” him. He got all of Monday off and then Tuesday due to the rain out. Then...
